On 6-5-20 around 1851 hours, VBFD along with auto-aid from Norfolk Engine 4, responded to a residential fire that spread to 2 vehicles in the 5300 block of Challedon Drive located in the Carolanne Farms section of the city. Engine 9 was first on scene and reported heavy fire showing. As crews were setting up for defensive fire attacked, several major safety issues occurred. A power line had burned off the house that was still energized. Secondly, the gas line feeding the house ruptured adding fuel to the fire. However, the most dangerous issue was live gun rounds were going off due to the extreme heat preventing a transitional attack for a short period. Thankfully there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The fire was marked under control at 1921 hours and marked out 45 minutes later. The cause is under investigation.
