Marine Team: Man Overboard 1-10-1 principal

Description Master Firefighter Josh Creamer walks you through a Man Overboard scenario dealing with the 1-10-1 Principle and operation of your PPE. The 1-10-1 Principle describes the 3 phases of how the body will reacts submersed in cold water. First you have 1-Minute to get your breathing under control, secondly you have 10 minutes of meaningful movement and finally you have 1 hour before becoming unconscious due to hypothermia. Activate your PPE as soon as possible. Activate your man overboard device  if it did not activate when you hit the water. The person who saw the individual go overboard announces Man Overboard and becomes the spotter for the boat operator. The operator will mark the man overboard on the chart plotter, sound the airhorn with 5 blasts to alert surrounding vessels along with activating emergency and scene lights. A crew member will deploy the life ring to the man overboard and strobe light. The strobe light will serve as a reference point for a possible searching point that may need to be done. For survival Stay Calm, activate PPE and remember your training.
